New - Need Help

I downloaded, installed and ran the wizard. Right clicked on my profile to load the characters and multiple windows came up. Is that the way this works? LOTRO only allows one sign in per account. Am I supposed to have multiple accounts? I thought the characters would load after startup. Thanks.

FAQ: Do I need multiple game accounts?

As you've stated, LOTRO allows only one sign in per account. The only way to sign in additional characters at the same time is with an additional account; this is a limitation built into the game servers.

That stinks! You know, if Turbine is ok with multiboxing and thus having multiple characters logged in, they should have it part of the game instead of players having multiple accounts.

I don't know of any game where you can have multiple characters logged in from the same game account.

Re: New - Need Help

Technically... Turbine does allow mutiple LOTRO Subscriptions per Account. Each subscription can have multiple characters. But as stated above, you can of course only have one character from each subscription loaded at once.

For example, I have one Turbine account (so one login name/password, one account email address, one set of credit card details, etc) with 9 Lotro subscriptions loaded on it. Each subscription has multiple characters. So for each instance of the game client, I log in with a single set of account credentials and the game client then prompts me for which subscription to load (if you only have one subscription on your account, you won't see this):

Then the character selection screen comes up and you can choose which character to load, as normal.

You can organise this with the Turbine accounts team over the phone or you can submit tickets through the account management portal to have extra subscriptions loaded onto your account. They usually action them within 48 hours. I ended up going this route, as Turbine have a quite a few account system limitations where there are multiple accounts for the same individual e.g. Turbine cannot use the same PayPal account to pay for more than 3 (or was it 4?) different accounts. If you take all of your subscriptions under one account, those limitations disappear and you will have a much easier time interacting with their accounts team.

I believe they are. I have found the Turbine GM's and accounts team relaxed and easy to interact with in terms of multi-boxing. Turbine does not appear to have any issues with multi-boxers who play considerately.

But unfortunately, like other MMO's, there is indeed no way to load multiple characters from the same LOTRO subscription at the same time.

Easy answer

They stand to make more money by requiring you to have multiple accounts. Also, if it's part of the game they have to support it which takes resources. Most MMO perspective is use it but if you can't get it to work it's not our problem.

It's a company. Profit > all
