Formations and Steps

Not sure where this thread should go, so placed it here.

I have setup a new formation which works well, but it requires 4 steps to complete. I can hold down the menu button and it repeats as expected, but the number of times it repeats is random, depending on lag between the various boxes, server lag etc. etc.

Is there any way to perform all 4 steps with one press of the menu button, or better still, is there a way to execute the menu button a certain number of times so that 1 click would execute the formation say 5 times and each character would move a reasonably consistent distant?

In the heat of a hard fight, it is sometimes hard to keep and watch all the characters move a distance, but also stay in range, so having a way to press a button once knowing that their movements will execute a set number of times would be most useful. Thanks.

Depending on how intricate your formation is, that's normally a side effect and sometimes there's nothing you can do about it. More steps = more complex = more factors involved (generally latency).

Unfortunately, no. Each action that ISBoxer performs must be the result of a press of a key, or a button, from the player.

Thanks for a fast response.

In the wiki it says "Multiple Steps can be used to perform a different Action or set of Actions each time a Hotkey is pressed "

Which is what I am after. Does this mean that the wiki is wrong?

Re: Formations and Steps

No. The wiki is correct. Multiple Actions can be executed from each Step. But those actions are sent to the game all at the same time, so sometimes they are not interpreted well because the game wont accept the flood of input. Usually you need to limit the number of actions that each game will receive all at once.

Something that may help you is you can get 2 steps to execute for every full cycle of a key. This might count as multiple steps I guess, although that is not the meaning of the statement you quoted.

You can set a mapped key to Execute a step when "pressed or released"

Ahh right, ok. Well 2 is better than 1 so that will help. I guess I will have to count the clicks as I do them and work out how many I need for a set distance. Thanks for the very speedy replies guys. Most appreciated :D

Re: Formations and Steps

Most of the time to save counting clicks, I add in the Last Step a popup text that tells me it's finished and set the Do Not Advance for x.x seconds (again on the last step), and finally set the mapped key to reset to Step 1 after x.x seconds (advanced options). This way I click away, get the popup. and it doesn't matter if I click a couple of extra times, and then within a couple of seconds the mapped key resets back to the beginning.

Re: Formations and Steps

Just to clarify... You cannot minimize the number of steps for a formation, which requires movement and therefore the 'Hold' option to be enabled, with the "pressed OR released" option.

Good point. Must remember that.

Re: Formations and Steps

I think the popup text and putting a hold on it for a number of seconds is a brilliant idea. Thanks for that.

What I have done is placed my formation in with the other ones, albeit a different menu. However (and slightly high-jacking my own thread here), I have been unable to make the button size smaller. I played with all the settings and even made the images really tiny, but they simply refuse to change size. All of the menus that I have are massive and far too big! I even tried 12x12 and they still look around 64x64

Any ideas why they wont scale ?

Thanks once again

Re: Formations and Steps

You may have an override on your template if changes you are making are not having any effect, or maybe your menu just isn't using the template you think it is.

You need to share your config to get an answer that is more helpful than my guesses. viewtopic.php?f=18&t=13
