can ISBoxer attach to a process that already runs? This would be helpful for games that are very picky with the startup

No, that would be called injection, and is generally against all EULA's. It is also the forte of most bots and hacks, which ISBoxer is not.
Re: attaching to process
Bob is mildly confused -- Inner Space does its "injection" when it launches the game and this process is not against EULAs. Other programs you're familiar with do injection as well -- FRAPS, TeamSpeak Overlay, Mumble, X-Fire, Windows Application Compatibility(!!!), and so on. And of course I'm naming things that are not, and have nothing to do with, bots or hacks...
The issue with attaching to an already running process is that most of what Inner Space does depends heavily on it being ready in the game process before the game actually starts up.

I was using a distinction between the environment and API presented to the game when the process is create vs changing it after it has finished startup. Maybe that distinction is just a theoretical separation on my part
