ATGs and sending keystrokes to them

I guess this is general enough. No configuration today, since I don't think it would help.

If I have manually placed a character into an ATG before launch, then I can direct a keystroke action to that ATG. But if I have not, then there doesn't appear to be any way to select the ATG as the target.

While this is not an EQ-specific question, I'll use EQ as an example. Any game can use ATGs, and would run into the same problem. If I have an ATG for a group leader, I might decide not to form the ATG before launch. Instead I might have the character set join one of the members to the leadership ATG during load. This seems reasonable.

I do have one cheesy seeming workaround, which was to add a character at random to the ATG, direct the action to the ATG and then remove that character. Is that the correct way to do things, or is there a better way to direct keystrokes to an ATG.

Re: ATGs and sending keystrokes to them

The drop downs are shortcuts to common selections. ISboxer caches the last character set you manipulated (I'm not sure of the exact details), so it provides a filtered list of items in the drop down based on that character set. If you don't have a character from the character set being used as the filter, in an ATG you want to select, then it (the ATG) usually won't show up in the list. You can always click on the * button next to the Target drop down to change the character set from which the Target dropdown is being based upon. If you select the Blank entry at the top, you get everything.

You can also type in the ATG name yourself in the Target box (it accepts manual input) along with any targeting mechanics you like http://www.isboxer.com/wiki/Target.

You should be aware that what is written in the drop down may be a Display version of the actual value, e.g. Window: All w/Current = "all", Window:Current = "self", Group (others in): DPS = "other DPS", Character Slot: 3 = 3 (if using an advanced target slot 3 is "is3" and not "3"). If you are typing in Targets yourself, type in the actual value yourself. Don't try and type in a Display value as this will not work.

Re: ATGs and sending keystrokes to them

Thanks, I'll look into that. I want to experiment with ATGs soon, since I think a lot of commands are handled best by ATGs.
