Weird performance issue - CPU?
Longtime customer, but new to ISBoxer and loving it!
I am 5-boxing WoW on an ALienware laptop - i7, 6GB, pretty ballsy. When I first got ISBoxer set up, it ran great - solid 60 fps in the foreground, smooth as glass transitions. A couple weeks later, something changed, and my fos slowed to about 20-24 in an instance, 5-10 in Orgrimmar. Then, a week later, back to high performance, then another week or two, and now I'm back to barely playable fps.
I have been assuming it was a CPU problem, and have tried the typical solutions suggested on these boards. However, in thinking the problem through, I'm not sure it's CPU at all. I can tell even before logging in to WoW on account #1 whether I'll be in high performance mode or slow mode, because the loading time of the 5 instances varies greatly. If I'm in high performance mode, my WoW instances (launched using ISBoxer) will start about every 8 seconds, and start up instantaneously; if I'll be in slow mode, the instances start about every 16 seconds, and there is noticeable slowness as the login screen renders.
So, I'm looking for your initial thoughts on what the root issue might be - hard to believe it's a CPU issue throttling just the loading screen of the first instance, even when Ihave round robin CPU set up and the first instance only has cores 1 and 2 (and of note, no matter what CPU strategy I try, if I'm in slow mode, I stay in slowmode, even if Igove all 8 cores to instance #1 just as a test).
Thanks in advance for any ideas or suggestions, very much appreciated!
