Just not having any luck figuring out how to DO this

I read the quick wizard guide, it all seems French to me. I found a youtube video for Rift, that helped a lot more. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_JTeLG9 ... re=related

But I cannot seem to get a second window to open. I can get the first window and the first instance of the game opened fine, most of the time. Nothing happens after that. Nothing.

I have only one monitor. I selected the single monitor layout "display 1" and set the slot for character 1 and character 2.

More often than not, I can't even get the game to load at all. ctrl alt del to end the program multiple times. Rinse, repeat. This is not worth the effort imo.

I'm at a loss. I'm so frustrated. This surely doesn't have to be so damn complicated?

Larke,

I presume because you mentioned RIFT you were looking at http://isboxer.com/wiki/RIFT:Quick_Start_Guide. If there is anything in particular that you feel needs further explanation or isn't clear please point it out.

In terms of finding out what is wrong with your setup, it would be helpful to be able to see your ISBoxer profile. Instructions for doing that can be found in the sticky at the top of this forum or at http://isboxer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=13.

Yes, I was looking at the Rift specific start guide and the generic one as well. The video I linked helped me more than any documentation. Seeing and doing at the same time helped me more anyway.

There are so many steps in the wizard. Most of which I have no understanding what they do or why. For a complete newbie the user interface isn't very friendly. Just saying.

Thanks for offering to help. I just tried 2 boxing without the program and it was most unsatisfying.

Re: Just not having any luck figuring out how to DO this

I can't see any problems with your profile. I looks like a standard profile after running the wizard.

I suspect, therefore, that the problem is elsewhere. Can you run a single instance of RIFT through Inner Space? To do so, right-click the red target icon (Inner Space icon) in your system tray. Select Rift -> Rift Default Profile. That should open the RIFT login screen and allow you to load one instance of the game. Once in-game you should see some information about framerate and memory in the top left corner.

If that works, try launching your character set again. What should happen is that once you get to character select on the first character, after a couple of seconds, another copy of the login screen (RIFT patcher) will open and you can log in again. If that second login screen fails to appear, wait about 10 seconds, then try to launch your character set again, which should open a second instance. Let me know if that works, and specifically where it deviates from what I have described.

Re: Just not having any luck figuring out how to DO this

After having to ctrl alt del the game several times, restart inner space many, many times and trying what you suggested over and over, I finally got it to work. Yet the 2 characters seem out of synch somehow. They are on the same server on the same faction standing in the same area, yet I cannot see one from the other. I can see the other character online my friends list but neither can see the other. How weird is that?

edit: logged them both in and out and now they seem to be in synch ... now what? I made a cleric for heals and a warrior.

Re: Just not having any luck figuring out how to DO this

Went through the Rift setup documentation and got to the mapped keys for combat. Entered 1 through = and am now stuck. Do these automatically bind to whatever spells/actions I put in the toolbar for those keys on both characters? I suppose I'll just try and see...

So why is the 2nd character seemingly going the *opposite* way my main character runs? And I'm not seeing her cast spells when I use the 1-5 buttons for my warrior.

The starting areas in Rift are instanced. Create a group for you two characters and Rift will prompt one to join the other's instance.

Re: Just not having any luck figuring out how to DO this

Thanks, I seem to have figured that out.

What I need help with now (pretty please - damsel in distress) is figuring out how to have both characters cast the same spell/use ability for key presses/bound keys. I get the concept and I've got it working somewhat. But with a warrior and cleric, who should I run in the main window? The cleric? Where I can target heal the warrior. That's my best guess.

So i that's the case, how do I best make sure that that warrior will attack the mobs my cleric is? Which macro do I use etc? I've ALMOST got this, I think. lol

Most people would run from the warrior but it is possible to do it either way.

Some macros like this should get you started:

Warrior (bound to 1) - this will be your main button you press for DPS
cast <some ability name>
cast <some other ability name>
etc.

Cleric (bound to 1) - for DPS
target <warrior name>
assist
cast <some ability name>

Warrior (bound to 2) - finisher

cast <name of finisher>

Cleric (bound to 2) - finisher or alternate DPS key
target <warrior name>
assist
cast <some ability>

Warrior (bound to 5) - same macro as bound to 1

Cleric (bound to 5) - heal warrior
target <warrior name>
cast <some heal>

Warrior (bound to 6) - same macro as bound to 1

Cleric (bound to 6) - heal cleric
target <cleric name>
cast <some heal>

So, now when you press 5 (as an example), ISBoxer sends the keypress 5 to both clients (this is what the mapped keys you set up do): the warrior does DPS, the cleric heals the warrior. How you elaborate on that is up to you.
