Problems with slow FPS

Hi all,

I just bought a subscription to ISboxer over the weekend and am fiddling with it getting it going. I have an I7 with 16GB ram, and using Windows 7 home premium.

I get 60FPS when launching wow manually. But it goes done to about 4 FPS when 2 or more characters are loaded using innerspace.

I've done some fiddling with CPU affinity, setting to direct x 11, etc but still slow with 2 or more characters loaded.

Any other suggestions? Oh I am running 64 bit edition of win 7 if that makes a difference.

If I have only 1 character with inner space (close down other window) I get 60 FPS and no other programs are loaded other than AVG anti-virus and firefox.

One final thing, i have 2 monitors and running in 2560 x 1440 mode (they are 27" monitors). Maybe that makes a difference?

Thanks

Re: Problems with slow FPS

From what I understand, Win7 64 is what I have on my laptop running a Dual-core 2.2, 4gb ram, and 1gb video, I have no problem running my 5 toons. My desktop is a little better specs and I have two monitors as well, runs just fine.

What you should check is under the Character Sets in the top pane, select a team.

Next select each character's number under the slots subdirectory. Don't select the toon name, select the number above it, check each of the characters however many you may have, for the checked options "Limit framerate in foreground" and "Limit framerate in background" My settings for this are 60 for foreground, and 10 for background. Thats just cause my system isnt' an i7 with 12Gb or more ram.

Common settings for multiboxing wow is usually 60/30 depending on video settings, and DX version. Personally what I've heard so far, run each wow with DX9 not DX11. Give that a try anyway too.

One thing to check too is in each instance of wow, make sure that you set them to disable "Limit foreground/background FPS" within the wow clients under the Advanced tab under Video settings. This may conflict with IS Boxers settings (however IS Boxer prompts you to force it off since it will handle the options)

IS Boxer also suggests optimal video settings. I dissable it cause my system is not the best, so I have it dialed down to the lowest setting (800x600) you may wand to set yours to a middle ground since you have more memory and faster CPU for better results, however you could probably test it on the lowest resolution just to see if that improves your FPS.

Also set you video settings to low, to test if that makes a difference. You can dial up your main toon to a higher graphics setting since you want to be able to see the environment details (eg: view distance, particle density, ground clutter, etc...)

Play with the other settings too like Vertical Sync, Multisampling, Tripple Buffering, and whatever else.

Re: Problems with slow FPS

This is probably unrelated to any ISBoxer settings, unless you have multiple video cards. If you have multiple video cards, then this might be what you need: http://isboxer.com/index.php/guides/21-using-multiple-video-cards. From the ISBoxer Chat Room last night it sounds like you only have one, so it's probably not this.

After that it's other software. If you're using Mumble or X-Fire (the chat software), you will need to either disable the software or the overlay features. I don't have any other specific examples in mind that would do this, but you could try shutting other things down too. You did say nothing else is running but firefox and AVG. Have you ruled out AVG?

Lastly, the most obvious, is WoW video settings. If you haven't set it to low quality/highest performance yet in your attempts, do that. Make sure Antialiasing (multisampling) is not enabled (higher than 1x).

Re: Problems with slow FPS

Thanks guys, I have followed your recommendations. Turned down the FPS to 30/10 on all characters seemed to help.

I think it appears to be the computer. I have a shiny new iMac i7 coming next month which should help. I did try it with my new macbook Pro i7 on an external 27" monitor and didn't do too well until I toned down the FPS to 30/10 again. but I have successfully used 5 characters and seem to have a stable 30 FPS on the main which is nice.

Anyway thanks again guys.

Cheers
