With your eye condition, and depending on the symptoms, your means, and no doubt other factors too, would it be worth considering a new screen or two, say 27" at 1920x1080. Perhaps even move into the small TV range of Full HD 32". You get a slight resolution increase over what you currently use, but also a physical pixel size increase.
Of course there are many factors to take into account. No doubt you've already considered this and I'm just stating the obvious.
Good to know that it is working for you at 125% though. I suspect based on your earlier comments that you had the screens running with individual settings rather than the same settings across both screens, and this may have been the reason for result.
