Duplication of Character names in Setup Wizard

Hi All

I am trying to find out if there is any way to clear all characters from ISBoxer and start fresh. I play EQ on the test server and when I am selecting my chars for my set it is giving me two to choose from with the same name. This is causing issues where some of the accounts aren't automatilly choosing the character on the char select screen and I have two accounts that are logging the wrong account names in for the chars that are loaded.

I have tried uninstalling and also copying from another computer but as soon as I log the chars in one at a time then shut them down to make the character sets I am getting the duplicates. It is getting frustrating and because I cleared everything all my other games sets have gone as well, so basically having to reload every toon I play through IS Boxer. :(

Any help would be appreciated. I tried to upload a screenshot using Microsoft word but the extension docx is not allowed.

Thank you

Re: Duplication of Character names in Setup Wizard

You could clear all characters, using the File menu -> Clear, and selecting the characters. This may not solve your issue if it is coming from the underlying EQ config files though (you can tell this by you duplicate characters being under the "From Everquest" node).

ISBoxer does look at all EQ game folders it can find by scanning the EQ game profiles (basically where the profile executable matches eqgame.exe, everquest.exe or launchpad.exe), and then looking for files within that end with "_characters.ini". So if you have multiple installs of EQ, e.g. one for Live and one for Test, and you have game profiles configured for both in Inner Space, and the same named characters in both installs, then yes, the same character names will show up twice. If I am reading it correctly, ISBoxer also reads the ServerName from these files, so if you have blank server names in the detected characters, then this is presumably because EQ has not added it.

You don't have to select the characters from the left pane there in the Quick Setup Wizard. That is just a shortcut to prefill some details. You can type in the details yourself into the fields to the right, and select the "Add Character to team" button.

It would be unusual that characters are Auto Selected at the char select screen. This doesn't occur with any of the games I know because it would require Inner Space to have knowledge of the game state, which it normally does not, and be able to send something to the game at the char select screen, and most games usually don't accept much in the way of text input at this stage. You usually have to select the correct char yourself. Unless of course you only have one char per account. Some games will default the selected char to the last character previously used on that particular account. This means changing the char per account can be a PITA especially if they are not all lined up in an order that meets your boxing requirements.

ISboxer also does not log in the Account names. These are details you enter yourself. If the wrong account name is coming up on a particular slot, then change it. The virtual files (copies of the config files) should then record that as the last use account details and default it. If you have the same character name across different accounts this may give you some grief where you are not sure which is which.
You may want to clear the ISboxer virtual config files (eqClient.ini and eqlsPlayerData.ini) from the folder where they are stored. The ISBoxer files are usually names eqclient-CHARNAME.ini and cqlsPlayerData-CHARNAME.ini). It is these files where your last used account name will be stored, so if something is going wrong, then it will generally be either these files are not being created, or you have copied some characters manually, and they are using the same virtual file because you did not update the details for the copied character.

Screenshots are welcome, but you're correct, taking a screenshot and putting it into a Word document file will be refused. That is a User error to take a perfectly valid image format and then embed it into a document for emailing around to "Group: All of the company" (this is ok if you have a wall of text to go with said image, but just an image, nope).
If you want to load a screenshot, do so, and save it as an image format. Depending on how you are taking the screenshot, this might go along the lines of ALT+PRNTSCN, open mspaint.exe, CTRL+V to paste, then File -> Save As a png file. You now have a valid image.

You config is usually worth more than a screenshot though. Both are even better.
