2 screen leaving a blank spot

I have two screens and I have screen 1 with 1 slot. Screen 2 I have 3 slots. I hope I use the right terminology here.
My problem is that when I swap using hotkey ctrl+alt 2, screen one gets slot 2 but where slot two used to be there is now a blank area. When I press ctrl+alt 3, 3 goes to screen one but leaves a hole.
How can I just get that 1 swaps with 2 and there is now blank or space left between the slots or regions?
