Key map basics

This might be something simple and I've missed it in the tutorials/docs but...

When I map a key on say PC1 and I switch windows to PC2 the keymappings I have for PC1 are also used for PC2.

For example, I create a keybinding on PC1 when I press F8 PC2 and PC3 will press button 6.

So the problem is if I switch to PC3 and press F9 PC2 will press 6.

How do you make it so the char-mapping is slot/name/character specific? The characters for keymapping are specific to the character already under key maps.

Also, is there a way to temporarily disable key cloning/mapping all together?

Thanks for a great app!

Re: Key map basics

The Hotkeys are available on whatever Character or Character Set you assign it to, and assigning a Character Set is 100% the same as assigning to each of its Characters. If you don't want F9 to press 6 if you're on a different guy, then don't assign it to that guy or the Character Set he is in

Well, I have no idea how your configuration looks right now, but to disable key maps you use a Key Map State Action for each Key Map you want to turn on or off on a given guy. For Repeater you can use a Repeater State Action or whatever you are already using for your Repeater hotkey.

Are you saying, you have made a mapped key, which presses 6 on PC's 2 & 3, when you press F8 to trigger it?
Or that the "6" on #2 & #3 is an error which you don't want?

If you've configured it, then just change the configuration.

Go into the mapped key.
Click the Keymap its in, on the top pane.
Expand it on the left pane.
Click on the step number (left pane).
Go to the right pane, under actions.
And change the action from PC 2 - press 6 and PC 4 - press 6, to whatever.

If its an error, then a look at your configuration is probably a better idea.
There is a sticky at the top of the forum, explaining how to post your config.

Re: Key map basics

As it turns out I had the key-map in the "Key-Maps->Slot#-Key-Map->Character Sets" as well as having the character set in the Key Map->Slot#-Key Map->Character Sets. so basically the key map was set for the set and for the character as well.

Once I cleaned that up it stopped the behavior I was having I didn't intend/want.

Also, I've setup the toggle key map option and will test tomorrow, thanks for the tip!
