Different Keystrokes to different windows?

Hi, I'm new to multiboxing & ISBoxer. I'm currently dual-boxing World of Warcraft, and I'm trying to configure ISBoxer in such a way that, when I press a keystroke in 1 window, it will send a different keystroke in window 2.

For example: I press the "Q" key in window 1, it will send "Q" to window 1, but it will send "F" to window 2.

Is this possible? I'd be grateful for instructions on how to set this up. This will make it a lot easier for me to dual-box because of the way I've configured the actionbars & keybinds in WoW. Thanks!

Re: Different Keystrokes to different windows?

I'm going to take your example at face value...

The general idea is to make a Mapped Key with "Q" as the Hotkey. It will contain a single step with two Keystroke Actions: one which has a Key Combination of "Q" and a Target of Character Slot 1, the other which has a Key Combination of "F" and a Target of Character Slot 2.

Where, i.e. in which Key Map, you should place the Mapped Key depends upon its purpose (which you haven't mentioned). Either FTL DPS Keys or General should be fine. Do not place it in Control or you will be unable to turn it off and therefore unable to type Q without also sending F to Slot 2.

Detailed steps (see User Manual for a more detailed explanation of the UI) :

1. Expand Key Maps in the upper pane and select General.
2. In the left pane, expand General and right click Mapped Keys, select New Mapped Key.
3. Type a short descriptive name for your New Mapped Key (do not leave it as the default).
4. Still in the left pane, click the number 1 under Steps.
5. In the right pane, right click on Actions and select Keystroke Actions, New Keystroke Action.
6. Choose Character Slot 1 as the Target.
7. Press the < button under Key Combination. Type Q in the Hotkey Picker and click the OK button.
8. In the right pane, right click on Actions again and select Keystroke Actions, New Keystroke Action.
9. Choose Character Slot 2 as the Target.
10. Press the < button under Key Combination. Type F in the Hotkey Picker and click the OK button.
11. Do File, Export ... from the ISBoxer menu and test in game by pressing Q.

Many thanks Alge for your very helpful and clear instructions! thanks to your help I've now been able to set up my various keystrokes for both characters.

However, my new keymap configuration now applies to all of my character sets, which is not ideal for me. I would like a different configuration for each Character Set that I dual-box.

For example:

1. When I dual box Character-Set-1 (Druid & Warlock):
Pressing "Q" in window 1 (Druid window) will send Q to window 1 and send "F" to window 2 (Warlock window)

2. But when I dual box Character-Set-2 (Druid & Priest):
Pressing "Q" in window 1 (Druid window) will send Q to window 1 and send "W" to window 2 (Priest window)

So each Character Set has it's own unique configuration. Is this possible?

Thanks!

Re: Different Keystrokes to different windows?

Yes, this is what Key Maps are for, to provide some organisation to Mapped Keys.

I would suggest making 2 new Key Maps. Call them "Druid And Lock" and "Druid And Priest".

  • Make sure that the Character Sets subtree is expanded in the top pane of ISBoxer.
  • Then with your new Key Map selected in the lower left pane, drag the appropriate Character Set from the top left pane to the bottom left pane (without selecting it). This activates a particular Key Map for a particular Character Set.
Now you can create Mapped Keys in the new Key Maps using the instructions from above. In fact you can copy the one you already have (and delete it from where you don't want it).

One additional thing you will need to do (enabling toggling of these new Key Maps so they don't interfere with chatting, password entry, etc):

  1. Go into the Activate Maps Mapped Key in the Control Key Map.
  2. Select Step 1 in the bottom left panel.
  3. In the bottom right panel, right click "General Key Map 'Off' -> all" and Copy Action to Clipboard.
  4. Right click Actions and Paste Action from Clipboard.
  5. Select this new Action from the list of Actions and change the Key Map from General to the Key Map you wish to be able to toggle.
  6. Repeat this process for additional Key Maps you wish to toggle.
  7. Then repeat the whole process above for Step 2 where the Key Maps are turned back on again.
