[WoW] Query About Window Swapping Please

Hi everyone, new multi-boxer here. I have watched countless videos and scanned through the forum posts but can’t seem to find an answer to this.

I have a 3-char setup - one big window and two smaller ones.

Is it possible to do the following?

Keymap something like CAPS LOCK key that when pressed (and held) the main active window becomes the 2nd char. But it would only do it whilst the key is pressed. So while it’s pressed you are controlling the second char but on the main window. After releasing the key, it would flip back to the main window being char1.

3rd char can be SHIFT-CAPS-LOCK.

I’ve played around with settings but can only find solutions where you just swap secondary char windows into the primary window.

Hoping there’s a way!

Thanks in advance.

From your last comment "can only find solutions where you just swap secondary char windows into the primary window" do I understand you want only mouse/keyboard focus into the 2nd or 3rd slot but not interested in swapping the video feed?

Can you tell us more about your window layout? Is it VFX? Is there a swap region or are the 3 slots static?

It sounds like you are after the "Hold to Control" mapped keys, which are preconfigured in the ISB42 - Base Hotkeys key map. These allow you to control your other toons directly without switching away from the main window (usually by driving with the mouse). Set some hotkeys on them. They are numbered for each slot.

@Wizeowel, thanks for your reply. I have the following setup currently:

- single monitor with 3 windows (one being primary and two smaller secondary ones)
- when I click in a secondary window it swaps with the main window and becomes the main
- 1 swaps with 2 and 1 swaps with 3
- this is the stock standard setup done through the wizard

What I'd like is the following:

- when I press *and hold* the CAPS LOCK key, window 2 becomes the main large window and I *control it* temporarily while the CAPS LOCK key is pressed
- as soon as I let go of the CAPS LOCK key, window 1 (default main character) goes back to being the primary large window
- I would have a similar key binding for window 3, so that when I press say SHIFT-S, window 2 becomes the main large window and I control it temporarily while the CAPS LOCK key is pressed

Hope you can help :)

Hi bob, this is great - when I press these hotkeys I can control window 2 and 3 using the mouse and window 1 doesn't register mouse clicks. But is it possible that when I press these hotkeys (e.g. CAPS LOCK) that not only do I control window 2 (for example) temporarily but it also makes window 2 primary while the CAPS LOCK key is depressed?

So sequence:

Window 1 primary (large), windows 2 and 3 small underneath
I press *and hold* CAPS LOCK key
Window 2 becomes primary (large) temporarily while CAPS LOCK is held *and* I can control it
I release CAPS LOCK key
Window 2 goes back to being small and not controlled
Window 1 goes back to being primary and large

Same for window 3 as above only with a different keymap

Hoping you can help. Thanks :)

This was in part of a longer answer I had, but decided not to post as it wasn't clear if this is what you wanted.

In short:
  • Yes it is possible.
  • You would probably need to use VideoFX to accomplish it.
  • There may be issues with mapped keys being executed when in this state as you also need to account for the fact you are pressing, and holding, capslock, or some other combo, which may mean that the Hotkeys for mapped keys don't match up. You end up with much the same limitations of the hold to control mapped keys. You are moving the toon with the mouse.

Hi bob, how would I get started to at least have the window be made primary while CAPS LOCK is temporarily held down?
