Can't add characters to Custom Hotkeys

Just installed IS Boxer so I'm a total noob. I'm following this youtube guide for EQ and trying to start by setting up a simple custom hotkey.

I can't click and drag my characters from the main tree to the characters tree under custom hotkeys. Inside the window it tells me, "You can drag a Character from the main tree to add this Key Map to it." However when I try to drag either of my characters from the main tree, I just get the red "no" symbol. What am I doing wrong?

If I had to guess you are trying to drop to an area which doesn't support dropping. Try dropping to the "Characters" node name in the lower left (note that this is unnecessary if you want the whole Character Set to get this key map - in this case just drop the Character Set down there).
