Planeshift

I'm trying to launch Planeshift without any success. I have used the ISBoxer wizard to create a team etc but each launch attempt results in Inner Space Launcher Error Code - 5

I have tried with the Inner Space path to both the game's exe and launcher exe with the same result. Started both ISBoxer and Inner Space as "administrator" and without on Win8.1

I'm probably the only person that will ever want to use this software for this particular game. It is an opensource mmo, created and run by volunteers. I don't want to use it for most of the amazing functions, just for the window swap, and precise mouse broadcasting. With this running I can create and play the first multi character music group. Running all the "musicians" from one pc and being able to perfectly synchronise the performance.

If anyone has encountered this Error Code before, or would care to spend some time to help me out, I would really appreciate it. The game is a small download, multiple instances run from a single install. It is free to play and register [ different email for each account].

Thank you.

Re: Planeshift

Are you using the x64 version of the game? Inner Space would require the 32-bit version

Re: Planeshift

Beyond that since the game is using OpenGL rendering rather than Direct3D, ISBoxer's Window Layout functionality will be limited. It might be advisable to use Video FX, as opposed to a Window Layout with Instant Swapping and differently-sized windows -- Common modifications: Video FX alternative to Window Layouts

Re: Planeshift

Damn, you're fast. You're right I'm using x64 I'll dl and install the 32-bit. I'll check out the link. Layout shouldn't be too much of a problem. Being able to accurately broadcast a mouse click in 3 or 4 windows at the same time is the highest priority. Otherwise the music produced will never be truly in sync. ISBoxer is I believe the only software capable of this.

Thanks.

Re: Planeshift

32-bit client has done the trick. Able to load multiple clients with instant swapping, key broadcasting etc. As you suspected Window Layout is problematic. If I have 3 chars, 1 on screen 1, 2 and 3 on screen 2, then both 2 and 3 show a quarter of their real screen estate until swapped into main window. They are not scaled down versions. This may be down to me not setting it up correctly yet. Does not leave space for windows taskbar either.

Stacking them on one screen seems to be the way forward as you said. It's an amazing bit of kit, thanks for your help. Testing stacking and mouse broadcasting later today.

Reckon you've another happy subscriber.

Not due to setting it up incorrectly, it's definitely due to OpenGL; the scaling will not work. This also happens with Minecraft (also OpenGL)

Glad it seems to be working so far otherwise :)

Re: Planeshift

Made a repeater box [if that's what it's called] to mousebroadcast "to others". Works a treat, so I can fire up a piece of music played by 4 chars with one click. There is a small delay, as it cycles through the screens I guess, but I expected that. Is there a way to do it with VideoFX? Might that decrease the delay at all? As it stands I am very happy with the results so far.

Been having trouble with the VideoFX windows on my char1 showing my followers. The windows look great, can click through them etc, but they never stay around for long. It's as if they "hide" and I've not found a way to keep them up permanently.

Well, I have about six months of practice with my little band to get their Music Skill up high enough to perform fast and fluidly. Soon as they're "up to speed" I'll post a vid.

Thanks again.

Re: Planeshift

I'd be very interested to see this vid of the music playing. Only game I know of music was LOTRO where you could play the instruments and all. How does planeshift compare to that (if you've every played LOTRO) ?

Re: Planeshift

I played LoTRO a lot both before and after it went f2p. It's a very polished game, and the music system is fantastic. As you may know you can download virtualy anything in abc format and play it, sometimes takes a bit of tinkering. I particularly like the ability to play live. Using the keyboard is possible but I used to hook up my midi gear and have a blast.

Now Planeshift is a different kettle of fish. It's a totally free opensource project, run and developed by volunteers. That being said what they have achieved so far is pretty amazing. It's a very small world compared to LoTRO, uses a classless skill based system, in depth crafting, unique magic system and music is a fairly recent addition. Unlike LoTRO where anyone can play any music they can get their hands on, only limited by the instruments they can play, Minstrels of course having the largest choice, Planeshift makes you work at it. It's a skill that you improve through use and training. Basically at the beginning you can play simple tunes very slowly.

Come and have a look. The download page link is in my first post, it's less than a Gb. If you want to meet up in game send me a PM here.

Re: Planeshift

Yeah, i remember the abc format cause i was playing some metallica in there. But then i realized the notes over your head were different if you were playing live vs abc. I came across one guy playing live and it was awesome; very impressive.

May have to check out planeshift if i get some time here in the near future! thanks!
