Melee IWT "Glitch" - Tips/Help wanted (:

Arvo mates!

Making my second thread here because I've something more I'd like to receive some help with.

It's the IWT "glitch" where your melee toons will just run around like headless chickens.
Now I do realize (or I think I do) that there's is no magical solution to this... Having watched this level 80 "veteran" try to PvP as melee and having the same problem as myself, I've drawn the conclusion that it's not fixable.

I am however interested in tips, is there any way to behave in order to reduce this occurrence?
It seems like tapping your IWT key no more than once every 2 sec works pretty well in preventing the glitch.

Does anyone have any similar tips?

Thanks a lot for your time! (:
Regards, Pontus! ^_^

Re: Melee IWT "Glitch" - Tips/Help wanted (:

I wouldn't necessarily call it a "glitch", the problem is that IWT moves you directly toward your target and doesn't adjust heading (obviously they didn't want this abused and it's not meant to be an auto-follow that works on mobs :P ). If your target moves, your guy is going to miss and keep going. In PVP especially, your target is typically moving. The only way to then stop your guy from running away and bring em back is to either hit follow or IWT again. If you hit IWT constantly, your guy is going to continue in a circle around your moving target.

So it's not really the timing (e.g. 2 seconds) in and of itself, he will still keep running away if your target moves between the time you hit IWT and the time he would have reached your target. The only sure-fire way to prevent it is to ensure your target doesn't move. Root your target in place, and your problem goes away for a second or two ;)

Outside of PVP you can just adjust position with auto-follow, assuming you're playing the tank. Run past the mob, turn around, melee, no IWT necessary in most cases -- unless the mob moves in which case IWT is pretty useful, or if someone gets feared it helps to bring them back to the mob (follow will get out of range, but IWT has no range limit afaik, your guy just runs).

Thanks for the reply Lax, so much wisdom lol!

"Run past the mob, turn around, melee, no IWT necessary in most cases" - This is what I've adapted to when killing mobs (:

I guess all I can do is deal with it and become more experienced.
Thanks once again ^^

Re: Melee IWT "Glitch" - Tips/Help wanted (:

I've basically made an Action Target Group, and called it Melee IWT.
I drag all of my melee toons, from all teams into this group.

I have two IWT mapped keys.

The first, has a hotkey and sends my IWT Keybind to all windows.
I use this, when I want everyone to interact, for example with a quest guy or a flight path.

I have another, which does not need a hotkey.
It sends my IWT to all members of the Melee IWT (Action Target Group).

I have that built into my FTL DPS Keys, specifically 1-4.
Although you could add it to whatever you wanted.
Just made two steps instead of one.
And on the second step, it is: Do Mapped Key > Melee IWT.
Which of course sends the IWT Keybind to all members of the melee team.
You can set the mapped keys to execute a step on press or release, or optionally just spam the key twice as fast as normal.

The beauty of this, is you can use a Toggle to enable/disable your Melee IWT mapped key.
When a mapped key is enabled, it can be called and will do things.
When it is disabled, even if it is called, nothing can happen.
So my toggle is two steps.
Step 1 enables the mapped key and sends Pop up text to the main window.
Step 2 disables the mapped key, again with corresponding Pop Up Text.

If you want the melee to stop spamming, hit your toggle until Melee IWT is disabled.
If you want them to swarm then toggle it back on.

For PvE, I generally IWT once, to get them to the target.
If you have a tank, they can auto follow on the way in.
But you could use IWT to play your tank, the same way a warlock/hunter uses their pet to tank with, when solo.
For PvP, you'll want to spam the key.
