Group Composition for 5 box

Hey all! Just getting started with STO since its mostly free and all I figured I could five box pretty easily when I'm not playing SWTOR.

The question is, what composition should I go with? 3 Tactical, 1 Enigneering, and 1 Science? Thats what I'm thinking anyway.

Re: Group Composition for 5 box

i would say it wont really matter, it more depends on what ship you intend to fly.

But i would recommend to have 2sci 2tac 1eng, it will give you a bit more diversity, sci have some awesome abilities.

but as i said it more depends on what ships you intend to fly.

some recommendations, based on my experience in elite STFs

all beams with the odd torpedo, all other weapons require you to be more precise in your movement, with 1 main and 4 on follow its to much micro management and it will make you loose dps.

Thanks for the advice! I'll probably go with what you recommend.

Can I skip the tutorial mission at the beginning? I'd much rather get right to it without having to individually go through the tutorial 4 more times.

Re: Group Composition for 5 box

no i dont think so, its how you get the 1st ship.

also there is a bug you need to be aware of, the mouse will from time to time stop working, most likely in you active window.

When that happens you need to restart that session, its happens pehaps once every 2nd hour (usually happens to me when i am in a STF :) )

2nd you need to "bind" follow to a key in space, for some weird reason you cant mapp it via the UI, so you have to /bind it

i think its something like /bind follow = f12, i use f12 for follow. (in space)

Also you need to configure behaviours like "attack assist target" or something similar and, only attack when target selected.

the purpose is so your followers always have your main targeted but then will fire on your target, plus use heals on your main who should be the tank.

I would recomend buying 6 pts (when possible) into threat but only in space skills NOT ground combat skills, that way you will pull aggro with your main who will be kept healed.

There is a lot more to it, but play around and at low levels it wont matter so much.

lastly, beams like polaron, disruptor, tetryon and phaser seems to pull the most aggro due to their de buff ability, so stay away from anti-proton (only availible at high lvl) on your tank ship.

The Jem'Hadar set (shield, engine and deflector) combined with polaron weapons (the set gives dps bonus to polaron) is a must for you as starters for higher lvls gearing, crazy aggro and good dps, for tanking i am not sure there is a better set to keep aggro which will be vital for you as a sto boxer.

mmmmbox - Thanks for the pointers! I haven't even gotten to boxing yet. I only have a few hours to play per week with all my other stuff going on so I still haven't finished the tutorials! I love to box so I'm looking forward to getting these tutorials out of the way.

Re: Group Composition for 5 box

If anyone is interested, I've FINALLY started 5 boxing STO. I've already got one tactical officer to level 50 and flying a bad ass Kumari Escort with really good gear.

My 4 others are at level 12 now. I have 1 Tactical Officer, 1 Engineer, and 2 Science officers just like mmmbox recommended. All i do is match level of squad leader (my level 12 guy) with my level 50 which makes all of the enemies level 12 but I still have all my level 50 abilites... you just do less DPS and have less Health. I pretty much wreck shop and should be level 50 with my whole team in no time.

I can't wait to try multiboxing an Elite STF :D

Re: Group Composition for 5 box

So for anyone who cares, I've successfully 5 boxed infected space elite!

I've completed this in less than 3 minutes consistently. My highest geared tax officer in a Scimitar gets over 30k dps while the rest do around 15k dps each.

I would recommend 1 engineer and 4 romulan tactical captains for a good 5 box group.
