LOTRO client stopped working

I bought a new Alienware computer. I did not change anything from my old computer, but when I try to run LOTRO I get the message "LOTRO client has stopped working" at the point when LOTRO begins to load the client. I reinstalled LOTRO, Innerspace, and Isboxer but the error still persists.

I uploaded a pic of the basic system. It is a quad 8 so it has 8 cores.

Is there anything I have to change to get LOTRO to run on my new system?

Re: LOTRO client stopped working

Did you make sure you're on the development build? And LOTRO is fully installed, not using the download manager thing? Did you try the things listed here: http://isboxer.com/index.php/component/content/article/41-troubleshooting-lotro-with-isboxer

Re: LOTRO client stopped working

I have tried all day to get this to work, but no success. I am not using the The Turbine Download Manager. I am using the development build. I changed the .ini file although I am not having the problem that fixed.

I watched the console as Innerspace launched LOTRO and it never shows that the character has started. Innerspace seems to lose LOTRO right after it launches. The window arrangement I set up in Isboxer is never invoked. When LOTRO launches it immediately goes to full screen and after a few seconds it gets the error message. It is actually acting like I am not running the development build of Innerspace, but I am.

The only difference between my new machine and my old machine is the new machine has 6 gig of memory. It is a quad core x2 and it is a 64bit machine.

XFire or FRAPS running? Seems to be my two biggest problems in the last week. :)

Don't think so, since I don't know what either of those things are. :) :)

Re: LOTRO client stopped working

Make sure you do not have LOTRO set to run in DX10 mode for the graphics. I am assuming that when LOTRO is trying to start that you never get to the point where IS puts the FPS indicator in the upper left corner.

Also, have you been able to run LOTRO fine outside of IS / ISBoxer? Do you have it set to run Windowed (you mention that the game goes full-screen when trying to start up...)?

Cheers,

Re: LOTRO client stopped working

I don't have LOTRO set to run in DX10. You are correct, I never get to the point where IS puts the FPS on the screen. Right after I login, LOTRO puts up a message asking me if I want to use DX10 graphics. I answer that NO and then the screen goes black and after a few seconds it gets the error message that the client has stopped working. I have tried running LOTRO full screen and windowed. It does the same thing in either case. Yes, I can run LOTRO fine outside of Innerspace.

I am wondering if I should put the dx9 dll in the working folder for LOTRO? I think I will try that.

Re: LOTRO client stopped working

I would not expect you to be asked if you want to run in DX10 mode... That sounds suspicious to me...

I would run LOTRO outside of IS and go into your settings and make sure it is actually set to be DX9 and not in some auto detect mode or something. I do not have a DX10 compatible system, so I have not attempted to run LOTRO in DX10, but I would not expect it to be asking you anything about that if it were set specifically to dx9... It may be trying to startup in some hybrid mode which is causing issues as IS attempts to attach to the game.

Cheers,

Re: LOTRO client stopped working

That error message says it's a problem with OpenAL, which the game apparently uses for your sound. Try updating your sound card drivers the Creative software with it and see if that helps. If not, you could always disable sound or try changing sound options while multiboxing

Re: LOTRO client stopped working

I disabled the sound blaster. But the error is still occurring. Do you think it is possible that the audio error happens because the client has already crashed?
