Question about memory usage multi client

I am planning on operating more clients on a second pc and i have a question about memory usage....

How many eve clients can be run using this setup and where would the bottleneck be based on the following specs:

All clients would be fit to screen using 1 large and the rest around the larger window. This would be on a 27" running at 1920x1080 windows resolution....

ATI HD 5870 1024mb
i7-920 OCd 3.3ghz (4 cores 8 threads)
24gb G Skill Ripjaw 1333mhz 9-9-9-24 DDR3 ram tripple channel

I'm considering upgrading from 6 to 24gb accually. I wanna know if this setup could handle 20 clients running at lowest possible setting, used for mining. In the past its been used for 6-8 clients and im currently running 10 clients 2 of them not in isboxer on second screen off an i-5 stock with a ATI HD 6950 and 12gb DDR3

The i7 machine would also be running an extended display to a 60" LED HDTV @ 1080p

Re: Question about memory usage multi client

I have an i7-920 running at 4GHz with 12GB RAM and a 2GB ATI 6950.
Win7-64 is on its own SSD, EVE is on another SSD, which definitely helps load times.

I 5-box PVE and 9-box Mining and back in February set up a 12-box configuration, which is when I hit issues.
All my teams run 1920x1200, stacked on monitor 1 with many, many video feeds going to the dxNothing on monitor 2.
The 12-box team has all graphical settings at absolute minimum and all those effects options unticked and set to 30/15 FPS.
I was getting slight pauses, especially when switching clients, so monitored the graphics card and my CPU/RAM, and (back in Feb) was running out of system RAM.
I stopped using that team as the pauses were too annoying to live with.

However, to give you actual figures, I've just run the team again with CoreTemp, GPU-Z and Resource Monitor up...

Logging all 12 in at JITA, docked:
    CPU cores are at 10-20% load
    using just over 10GB RAM
    GPU at 29% load
    using 1.2GB GPU RAM
Undocking at JITA 4/4 (so lots of ships around):
    CPU cores now at 15-30% load
    using just under 11GB RAM
    GPU at 37% load
    1.6GB GPU RAM
It's getting close to my RAM limit but no paging, so no pauses, eminently flyable :)

So they have presumably fixed a memory issue in the last 6 weeks, making my 12-man team usable on my PC.

I'm guessing your CPU will handle the load, no problem - 12 clients barely stresses my i7.

Your 1GB GPU RAM might be an issue, as I hit 1.6GB usage with 12 clients - I don't know what happens when you run out of GPU RAM - does it start paging or just crap out?
Power wise, the 6950 is barely working, so you certainly don't need a top-of-the-line GPU but you might need something with more RAM.

My 12GB RAM currently handles 12 clients - so 20 clients should fit comfortably into 24GB RAM.

Hope that helps.

Re: Question about memory usage multi client

I am running a i7 920 @ base speed 2.67 GHz with 6GB RAM on a Asus Workstation mobo, 2 NVIDIA GeForce GTX 480 (3 Monitors 1920 x 1200, 1 Monitor 1680 x 1050)
Win7-64, 2 SSD's, I have no issues with load times at all, also the swap file is still not used (no paging)

I use ISBoxer to run 7 eve clients over 4 screens. 6x 1920 x 600, and 1x 1680 x 1050
The Eve client is set to performance.

Memory usage is stable near the 5.76GB.
Caped the FPS to 50/10.
CPU Configuration: Round-robin, where the main client has dedicated CPU cores 1,2.

ISBOXER ROCKS!!!!!

Re: Question about memory usage multi client

I'm running an i5-750 at 3.5 GHz with 16GB RAM running at 1600 MHz. Paired up with a Radeon 6950 running at stock speed.

I didn't have any lag with 15 clients open in Jita. Everything on minimum except for my main account, which has everything maxed. Everything was capped to 50/30. RAM usage was at about 15GB out of the 16GB and my processor was around 90% load. Videocard at 70%.

Don't try to play anything else while having so many clients open though, as you will lag really hard (I've tried).

Re: Question about memory usage multi client

Thanks for the info on your experiences. I am going to start with 8 but want to get at least 12 split across this machine and the other one for a total of 22 split. Ive seen people that have been able to run 20 clients on a single machine however I do not have dual gpu's or ones with more then 1gb memory atm. The i5 does not even seem to be using all the video ram and it has only 2 cores 4 with HT so i figure 50% more shouldnt be too much. Doesn't having the windows set smaller reduce the video card memory usage?

I should also add this is for zoomed out ice mining. Definately wouldnt try to do it for missions or high traffic areas like jita. Right now the i5 with 8 isboxer and 2 windowed clients is stable normaly and choppy but still playable even with bitcoin miner running in background!
