Just cant seem to get ISBoxer working...

So after a few hours of pulling my hair out...I have came to the conclusion that getting this to work is past my meager knowledge...and hoping someone here can help me out.

My goal is to use ISBoxer to control 2 chars. My main char on 1 screen and a secondary char on another screen. At some point I may do more chars but this is where I am starting. I dont need alot of fancy key mapping just the ability to press a G key on my G15 keyboard and have my secondary char perform an action. Seems fairly simple and something that ISBoxer does. I would even settle for pressing "1" on the keyboard and having it press "1" on both screens.

So I go thru the whole setup process of adding games to IS. I use separate game folders...so I have a EQ2 Primary and an EQ2 Secondary. I create a game in IS for EQ2 Primary and point it to its launcher.exe file and create another game EQ2 Secondary and point it to my second game folders launcher.exe file. Then go thru the basic setup in ISBoxer..naming my chars, assigning them to a char set, setting up my window layout, etc. It all seems to go fairly easy. I create a shortcut for activating keyboard repeating and 1 for mouse repeating.

I then click the IS Character Set Name and it starts my first instance of EQ2. The uplink console on IS shows it starting my slot 1 char..then a couple "Window not Available" lines then after 60 seconds says the character set didnt fully launch select again to continue launching additional slots. So I do...in which case it restarts EQ2 Primary and will never start my EQ2 Secondary game.

So I figure I can make shortcuts from the IS config screen for each game. So I get both games running using the shortcut icons..it shows them both starting in the IS concsole....but none of the shortcut keys to turn on mouse/keyboard repeating work. Not even a shortcut to see the ISBoxer config screen will work.

I have tried reinstalling both IS, and ISBoxer and it doesnt help.

Here is my profile

Re: Just cant seem to get ISBoxer working...

Launching EQ2 directly through IS will not activate any ISBoxer settings. You need to launch it with the ISBoxer Character Sets menu.

Instead of pointing it at the launchers, point it at the game client itself -- I believe it's EQ2.exe. You'll get a login box when the game launches.

This might fix the problem for you

I dont think you can launch EQ2 with EQ2.exe anymore. It causes the game to crash as soon as it starts. The only way to start EQ2 now is with launcher.exe unless there is a workaround I am unaware of Ive tried using EQ2.exe both with IS and without. Game crashes on startup.

Re: Just cant seem to get ISBoxer working...

There are lots of people who launch EQ2 directly. If the game client crashes when you launch it directly, that sounds like a problem with your EQ2 install?

I apologize though, I'm told that everquest2.exe is the game client, not eq2.exe (which is the old launcher, I guess).

For most people, here's how using ISBoxer goes as far as EQ2 is concerned
1. Install and run ISBoxer.
2. Select "EverQuest II" for the game and "EverQuest II No Patch" for game profile.
3. Play

That is, IS detects the default EQ2 folder, and there's no real reason to have multiple folders (using ISBoxer's virtual files will allow you to use one file in place of another, for example).

Re: Just cant seem to get ISBoxer working...

I am going to try and move my EQ2 folder into the default location. I use a seperate hard drive to store all my games on. Maybe this is causing the issue.

Re: Just cant seem to get ISBoxer working...

So the problem was my EQ2 install...it was the streaming client version...I guess where it downloads stuff as you go. Once I downloaded the entire game I could start it without having to patch first.

So I have now got everything up and running...only 1 more question I have.

Is there anyway to get the windows to not swap? I want to keep my second char on my second screen always..and just be able to move my mouse over and do any clicking that I need done. I have tried messing with all the options (I assumed it would be under window layout) but havent been able to get the windows from swapping. Anyway to keep the windows set?

Thanks for you help!

Re: Just cant seem to get ISBoxer working...

It is in the Window Layout. The only thing you have to do is uncheck the "Swap" box. However, any changes you make to your Window Layout will not take effect until you restart the game.
