FPS hit when using IB

Hi there,

I play my EQ2 team of 4 from time to time, my setup is Master on main PC, 3 slaves on gaming laptop. Recently I noticed a huge FPS hit on main PC when I run my team versus just straightforward EQ2 solo launch. I normally get 50-60 fps when launching the game normally, and about half that if its launched via Innerspace. I tried experimenting with options like "Prevent Isboxer from forcing into windowed mode", "disable Vsync" to no effect. The settings in eq2_recent.ini files are identical. I thought maybe it was caused by stereo-3d nVision driver (I play in stereo-3d with shutter glasses, thus only one game instance on main pc), but when I disabled it in nVidia control panel, the result was the same. The issue is on both IS 4.0 and 4.1. Anyone else experiences this?

Would you mind looking into this Lax please? Eq2 is ftp. Its still playable but takes a lot of enjoyment away, especially in s-3d mode that eats into performance on its own.

Thanks

Re: FPS hit when using IB

Ok, I think I have found what is causing this performance drop - it's Click bars (and new Menus). Once I hid these UI overlay elements in IS GUI panel in-game, the FPS went back to normal immediately. It seems that the more buttons you have visible, the harder the hit, but even one button on screen is quite bad for performance. Not sure if this overlay stuff could be fixed easily, but wanted a heads up anyway. I do love new Menu feature in IS boxer, would be a shame to not to use it because of FPS issues.

P.S. I have just checked if Vanguard SoH has similar issues - the FPS drop is negligible, I picked about 2 fps by disabling all click bars I have in-game. So it appears the issue could be game-specific. My WoW sub ran out so I cannot test it to see what the impact is.

Re: FPS hit when using IB

It's entirely possible that the problem you're experiencing can be solved via newer drivers, or by changing in-game settings. Can you send me a copy of your eq2_recent.ini file to compare to mine for testing? It might also be important to know what specific video card you have. (and the driver version)

I'll certainly try to reproduce the issue, but so far this is the only report of this happening and there are a pretty good number of EQ2 players using ISBoxer.

I don't think it's game-specific. I play WOW and my menus cuts my fps to half.

I have the fps threshold set to 60.
When I load a skinned menu (with bg image), fps drops to 27.
If I load the same menu unskinned (without bg image), fps drops to 55.

This test was made at WOW login screen, with just 1 window.

(My graphic board is a NVIDIA GTX650 running the latest drivers)

Re: FPS hit when using IB

I hadn't noticed because I normally cap at 30 FPS. When I put my maximum up to 60 FPS I saw a hit of about 5 FPS with all Menus and Click bars on screen. This was just on my main Character. Tested with RIFT.

Re: FPS hit when using IB

Any news on this? I am still experiencing severe FPS hit when click-bars or menus are visible. In Everquest 2.

I'm currently unable to reproduce the issue.

Have you tried adjusting your EQ2 settings yet?

Are you using NVIDIA Stereo 3D?

Re: FPS hit when using IB

No, I dont use nvidia 3d currently. I just launch EQ2 on main PC (my Master toon) and if any of click bars or menu is on screen, my FPS gets halved. If I close visible click bars/menus via IB GUI, by FPS gets back to normal. I dont think ingame settings are having any impact on the problem, it seems to be the overlay performance impact on the game. Are you saying that in your EQ2 test setup this is not the case, and you have similar FPS rates with bars on as with bars off?

itt seems to be the overlay performance impact in the game. Are you saying that in your EQ2 test setup this is not the case and you have similar FPS rates with bars on as with bars off?

I am well aware that you're saying it's the overlay performance, but what I am saying is that I am unable to get a noticeable FPS hit from popping up some menus and I believe the same is true for most people.

This is why I have to ask for your settings and such, because something is different between our setups and one of those differences is likely causing this problem. I don't know what it is and have little to go on at the moment.

Your pasted config also references EQ2-CustomMode.cfg, is that something you can share? I would probably also try testing with your EQ2 settings reset to defaults.
