WoW unable to start up 3D Acceleration

Main region launches fine but any subsequent regions launch the process and crash returning an error "World of Warcraft was unable to start up 3D acceleration". This issue started today post 7.2 patch, was working fine right up until the patch (literally). Trying to launch any of the regions individually other than the main region ends in the same result.

Incidentally, I always get this message and game crash when trying to manually change windowed mode and resolution in game system properties while running an isboxer instance. Unsure if this is an expected result when attempting to manually change resolution while boxing. I only mention it in case it's relative.

https://pastebin.com/fFJQ8fzQ

Further information: If I load a single monitor stacked full screen all 5 regions load properly. I can then swap a dual monitor windows layout and do a live export. All regions function normally and stay stable.

Re: WoW unable to start up 3D Acceleration

Hello, sorry for hijacking the thread, but I'm having the same issue. Although I don't know where to get that pastebin to help with this issue, I have the same symptoms, and same results when trying the same workaround.
I'm also guessing it was something related to the patch? cause previously everything was just fine.
One thing different, is that I use multiple computers (2) and on one of them, everything is as it was, and the second one has this issue. I already formatted assuming it was a driver + isboxer issue, cleared settings, to no avail.

Re: WoW unable to start up 3D Acceleration

I'm the third person with the problem. I'm using the same computer that I always have used. I had uninstalled WoW and Isboxer a few weeks ago and reinstalled clean versions after 7.2 began. I'm using the same profile I've always used, but now I keep getting the same error message. On a second computer I was getting the same message, but was able to get them running after cleaning up character related WTF files and removing all previous Windows layout profiles, but on my main computer I'm still running into the same problem.

Re: WoW unable to start up 3D Acceleration

For all these cases it would be beneficial to get a compatibility diagnostics and any crash reports that WoW is putting out.

If there are any dump files being generated then those might be useful to Lax (email them or host on some service where he can get them). If no dump files are generated, then just get the first two, and further instructions will be provided on how to get a dump if it becomes necessary.

Re: WoW unable to start up 3D Acceleration

A lot of people complained about graphics settings being reset after 7.2. It's possible some of you are now set to use d3d11, where you were previously set to use d3d9 in the game. One thing you can try is to adjust the Game Profile used to launch your Characters -- for example if it is set to "World of Warcraft Default Profile" try setting that Character to e.g. "World of Warcraft DirectX9". This Game Profile should already exist.

Re: WoW unable to start up 3D Acceleration

I already tried changing the game profiles and none worked. I've got a working scenario right now, but I still get pop-ups saying that the system is trying to use a region that doesn't exist. I've been busy with some other things and will post more as I have time.

Errr wot?

If this is during login, then I'd suggest checking the per character config-charname.wtf files, and check out the Portal= line to make sure it is correctly set. If it is at some other time, then further info about what you mean (or what the game means) when you refer to "region" (if you happen to know).

Re: WoW unable to start up 3D Acceleration **SOLVED**

I am having the same issue. "World of Warcraft unable to start up 3D acceleration". I have pasted the diag. from ISBoxer below. Everything was working fine until recently. I have tried a few things already. -Changing in game graphics API from DX11 to DX9 (while also changing ISBoxer's "game profile" from "World of Warcraft Default Profile" to "World of Warcraft DirectX9"). I have also tried deleting and re-running the setup wizard, as well as trying a different screen layouts. Updated graphics driver to newer version. This error only occurs when trying to launch a team, not when directly opening WoW.exe. Nothing so far has fixed the issue.

***UPDATE*** I just fixed this. All I did that corrected this was reinstall my graphics driver using "custom installation" instead of express installation, AND selected "clean install". This immediately fixed the problem and I was able to load all 8 windows without issue.

Errr wot?

If this is during login, then I'd suggest checking the per character config-charname.wtf files, and check out the Portal= line to make sure it is correctly set. If it is at some other time, then further info about what you mean (or what the game means) when you refer to "region" (if you happen to know).

I checked my config files in the WTF folder and I didn't find any lines with "Portal" listed.

So this other problem only occurs when trying to launch a team. Sometimes the windows will launch on a team, but the 3D acceleration error prevents any window from opening correctly. This is error is from the second screen that tries to launch (it's different on different teams) "Inner Space is trying to use only the display \\.\DISPLAY3, which cannot be found. To continue using the primary device instead (which may or may not behave/perform as desired), click OK; otherwise click Cancel to report no display to the game, which may immediately crash."

This may be a different problem from the 3D acceleration problem, but I'm not sure. I think it's at least related.

This message will only appear in D3D11 mode, and only if your Window Layout calls for a screen that is not in your current set of attached monitors. This is exactly what is discussed in this thread. Your Window Layout has outdated monitor layout info embedded in it and should be replaced by a new Window Layout (which will have your current monitor layout embedded within it).
