Lead change question

This is my repost from over at dual-boxing, still trying to resolve...

When leading with toon {slot 1}, I have a key assigned to spread out toons {slots 2-5}. Toon 2 strafes left, toon 3 goes left and back, toon 4 goes right and back and toon 5 strafes right, leaving toon 1 to do whatever.

What I want to setup is when I change leads, I can get the same results. Thus if toon 3 leads, then toons 1,2,4,5 do the same spread out as in the 1st example, of if leading with toon 2....ect..

Is there an easier way to set this up in ISB without having to make 4 other key mappings to accomplish this?

Re: Lead change question

Yes, actually.

If you are always going to have the same number of people (e.g. 5), then it is safe to use advanced Target mechanics to set this up using only a single Mapped Key. :)

I will walk you through this based on the default "Star formation" which looks like this:
  • <Move Forward> -> 2
  • <Move Backward> -> 3
  • <Move Left> -> 4
  • <Move Right> -> 5

The part to change here is the 2,3,4,5 which is the "Character Slot:2" through "Character Slot:5" selections in the Target drop-down box of each of these. Instead of selecting anything from the drop-down box, we will manually change the Target -- by typing in the box! The first one will be something like "(all other)%1" with no quotes, the second "(all other)%2" with no quotes, and so on.

When complete, it will look like this:
  • <Move Forward> -> (all other)%1
  • <Move Backward> -> (all other)%2
  • <Move Left> -> (all other)%3
  • <Move Right> -> (all other)%4

Note: If you want to use an Action Target Group instead of "all other", say it's called Melee, you would put "(other Melee)%1" instead for the 1st character in Melee other than yourself, and so on.

This may be simpler than you even thought possible. Enjoy. :)

Re: Lead change question

When boxing, I generally will always run with 5 so this will help quite a bit.

Thanks!

I've had a chance to try this out in game now. It's beautiful and such a simple, elegant solution. The hidden depths in ISBoxer continually amaze me.

Have you contemplated changing the formation Mapped Keys set up by the Quick Setup Wizard to use this method? Or adding the formations to the Mapped Key Wizard with an option to choose the number of slots?
