is there a quick way to take a character set and just replace the names directly? i mean quicker than the quick wizard?
Re: quick set change
Sounds like you want to just change the "Actual Names" of the Characters as defined in ISBoxer, for your Character Set. To do this, you can just select each of the "Characters" in the top left pane, then change the "Actual Name" in the bottom right pane. You can treat a "Character" instead as an "Account" (e.g. always log into the same account in that window, but maybe a different character on the account).
You can also simply put a "*" with no quotes in the Actual Name box, if you would like ISBoxer to not care about the names of your characters. But this will also prevent you from using macros that are generated for you by default that rely on this name, like FTL Follow Me, FTL Assist Me, etc. But it would make the process you're asking about quicker.

Re: quick set change
i am not sure i made clear what my intention was: i want to
create a character set
play a few minutes,
log off
delete the characters
create new characters
log off
replace the old characters in isboxer with the new ones.
export to innerspace.
right now the best i could do was use only the screen management of isboxer/innerspace without the multiboxing commands. If that is all that is possible, so be it. what i have to do to level the guild in the start zone is not very demanding.

No, you made your intentions clear enough the first time.
I'll try to re-explain. Maybe you will understand what I am saying, maybe not.
The only reason your ISBoxer character names matter in WoW is because of the "Actual Name" of the Characters in ISBoxer.
This option gets put into the "/follow {FTL}" macro -- when you Export to Inner Space -- in order to make your guys follow the right guy when you press Alt+F. It also goes into "/assist {FTL}" so that when you press Alt+Backspace (by default) or one of your DPS buttons that includes Assist, it knows who to assist. It also goes into "/targetexact {FTL}" which is not used by default, but can be used for example to heal someone specific (as opposed to Assisting that person, you might Target them in order to heal them).
These might be what you are referring to as "the multiboxing commands".
-----------
If you want ISBoxer to ignore your Character Names, but still be able to follow and assist, you can do this the Non-WoW way instead of the WoW way. Instead of selecting World of Warcraft during the Quick Setup Wizard, set up a team as, say, "Other". ZERO wow macros will be made for you, and your Character Names will therefore be 100% irrelevant.
If you choose to go this route, YOU will probably want to choose a specific guy to assist and follow, because otherwise, you must do extra configuration in order to set up following and assisting every window. That would be precisely the same extra configuration that is done for pretty much every other game except for World of Warcraft, in order to get follow and assist in every window, and is explained in detail under Common modifications: The game's Key Bindings. There's even a video that describes it. Setting this up is far more time consuming, and confusing, than using the Quick Setup Wizard! The Quick Setup Wizard is absolutely the fastest possible way to get assist and follow in every window in WoW.
-----------
My #1 suggestion was to REPLACE THE ACTUAL NAME FIELD IN YOUR EXISTING CHARACTERS. This will update the character names, it will update the follow and assist macros, bringing you follow and assist in every window, all of the standard ISBoxer features, for the amount of time it takes you to type in 1 name, click the next Character, type in a name, click the next Character, type in a name, and Export to Inner Space.
This avoids using the Quick Setup Wizard, avoids adding dozens of "Characters" to your ISBoxer configuration, while still providing the features from the wizard. That's because the wizard already set them up, you're just applying it to a differently-named character in the game.

that worked beautifully. thank you.
and then again not. i have been at it since yesterday, even reinstalled ib/innerspace. created a new character set with the wizard. no problem. then renamed one of the characters, exported, restarted. error. i have already pulled all my hair out and i would willingly start at my teeth were it not that i already have a dentition.
innerspace gives the right list, with the new name. but after starting the game i get an error, expecting x and got y
re re re edit: i found out that i had to change the actual name in the bottom pane, and not only the name in the top pane. Lax, i really hope you already started on the new interface! Is it then necessary to change the top pane, or is changing the bottom enough? will finf out sooner or later.
