Minimum Specs For 4 Instances On One Machine?

Hey There Everybody!

Long-time former InnerSpace user here (RIP, ISXWoW+ISXWarden). I'm eager to try doing a full group in SWTOR on one box. Has anyone had any experience trying it? I'm not really concerned about keyboard command sets or anything like that. Fundamentally, I was wondering if anyone could recommend some minimum hardware requirements? Right now, my beefiest system has the following relevant components -

Mobo: Nvidia 650i Ultra
Video Card: Nvidia GeForce 8600GT
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 2.4Ghz
RAM: 4GB of DDR2 800 (out of a possible 8GB)

This was sufficient to 4Box Wow. But, it's barely able to run one instance of SWTOR. I have to turn everything down to the minimums in-game and dial down every setting in the control panel to run it at 1024x768. So, I'm not really worried about visual quality. The abject graphical minimum is fine. I'm just looking to try running 4 copies with a minimum outlay of cash.

Thanks Everyone!

Edit:
I'm running 32-bit XP. The main problem I'm having is a slow framrate. With this machine, I could run 4 copies of WoW at around 30fps. I was hoping I could just upgrade the graphics card. But, the mobo only has a PCI-Express x16 v1.0 slot for the graphics card. So, unfortunately it looks like I'm basically going to have to get a new mobo, processor, RAM, and graphics card. I'm just trying to figure out the least costly way to do that.

Re: Minimum System Requirements For 4 Instances On One Machine

What is the problem you are seeing when running a single instance? Slow graphics, or memory problems?

What OS are you running? You can't access the full 4GB with a 32bit OS, you need 64bit. I run Win 7 x64 on my game computer, and prefer it over XP. You can open the task manager and look at the memory requirements before and after loading SWTOR. The difference will tell you what is required to run 4 instances (base + 4 x difference)

Looking at your system specs I suspect you need a new graphics card, but since I don't play SWTOR, I can't answer for sure.

Re: Minimum System Requirements For 4 Instances On One Machine

I am running two instances with a similar spec of machine, well a ATI4850 rather than 8600GT, running in 32Bit I was getting around 10-15fps with low everything at 1600x1200 on one screen and 1680x1050 on the other - playable just.
I just updated to 64Bit a couple of days ago to get windows to make use of the rest of my 8Gb, frame rates did improve but not that much. I did notice a difference in transitions however, persumabily because it can cache more of the graphics etc.
So I'd go for an updated graphics card firsts and see what it can do, and switch to 64bit if you can second.

If your going to box x 4 on one computer your going to want 12gigs of ram. Each instance will take up too 2 gigs = 8gigs + windows, apps. I average around 10.5 to 11.5gigs while playing.

Update - Minimum Specs For 4 Instances On One Machine?

Here's an update as far as what I'm thinking about upgrading:

Motherboard: ASUS P8Z68-V (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131773; So I can eventually go SLI if necessary.)
Processor: Intel Core i5-2300 2.8GHz (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115076)
Graphics Card: EVGA GeForce GTX 550 Ti 2GB 192-bit (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130652)
RAM: (4x) Kingston 4GB DDR3 1333 (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820139046; Unfortunately I can't find any 4GB dual-channel.)

The only thing I'm really not sure about is the graphics card. Darkmod, I was curious as to what type of card you might have and what settings you're using so I can get a frame of reference. I hate to keep pestering folks about this. But, I'm only gonna be able to afford to do one big upgrade in the next several months and I really don't wanna screw it up.

Thanks Everyone!

I like Asus motherboards, don't know anything about this one though.

The processor you selected has built in graphics capability. You might find a better/faster version (i7?) that doesn't include the graphics for not much more money.

I've had a lot of trouble with the capacitors on EVGA graphics cards. It really sucks to hear a snap followed by your display going dark. YMMV. You might also check ebay and see if you can get a used one for cheap. A lot of people are upgrading since they can't run their Xmas games....

I'd suggest buying a 16GB memory kit instead of 4x 4GB parts. There are a number of them available for less than $100. I think I'm using GSkill now, most have a lifetime warranty. Be aware that using all four slots may force you to run the memory slower than the rated speed, so you might buy some that is faster (DDR1600) to get the DDR1333 performance. http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100007611%20600006073&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&Order=PRICE&PageSize=20 You will need a 64 bit operating system (I like Windows 7 x64) to access all the memory.

You don't mention a power supply. Find out how much power the graphics card takes worst case and add ~200 to size the power supply. If you get one that is too small, you can get random crashes that drive you crazy.

Re: Minimum Specs For 4 Instances On One Machine?

I have been enjoying my 4 boxing in swtor, currently have 4 Sith Inquisitor - 1 Tank, 1 Heal, 2 DPS and it is great.

My machine
Processor: I7-3630k (5.2 gh, water cooled)
Mother Board: EVGA X79 Classified
Graphic Cards: EVGA GTX 680 4MB x 2
RAM: G. Skill Ripjaw Z Series 32GB
Hardrives: 2 Seagate 2 TB Harddrive + 8 250GB SSD

This is a powerhouse machine i know, but I have no problems playing this game with the four windows my wifes computer which is an older one from last year can easily handle two chars also still running gtx 560, i5-2500, evga motherboard, and 8gb ram.

Re: Minimum Specs For 4 Instances On One Machine?

Personally i'd go with an AMD 6 core processor over what you selected. They can be OC to over 4ghz easily with a good air cooler. Or for only 50$ more or so you can get an 8 core. Far more future proof imo than an i5 from intel.

I just noticed this post was from last year lol.
