What specifically does VFX use for rendering?

So no matter what I throw at this to (290x, dual 780ti's, dual Xeon E5-2620's, 4930k)

I cant get this (rather intense) VFX dxnothing setup to go higher then about 10fps

its about 160 small windows, so im sure its crazier then most.

Is this just an in inherent problem with VFX and Windows Aero?

It does sound like an inherent problem with using a lot of VFX.

If you're having ISBoxer render borders, you could try removing that so there's not extra rendering in addition to what the DWM (Aero) is rendering.
