GTX 970 vs Saphire R9 390 Nitro

My actual config is:

i7 3770K @ 4,5
16GB RAM
GTX 680 MSI Lightning 2GB

I runing 21 accounts of EvE Online.

The weakest think in my setup is graphic card and i want to change it.

I don't know what will be better 970 with 4gb ram or 390 nitro with 8GB ram, the price is similar. But what will give me more perfomance.

Re: GTX 970 vs Saphire R9 390 Nitro

Looking through this review on Toms, you can get a 970 SC and it will perform about as well as a 390, and in some cases beat it (notably this is usually on minimum frame rates!). But then they are testing for single demanding "modern" game performance at high graphics quality settings, not 21 instances of a game designed to run on older hardware and potentially variable quality settings, so the VRAM requirements will be different, along with the end utilisation.

The only decision at this point that I can see would be whether you need more than 4GB of VRAM and want to use more electricity (a lessor consideration but might depend on whether you would need a new PSU). Actual performance seems about the same.

Hi,

Just wanted to say that i went with the Sapphire and im happy with its performance. I too wasnt sure which card to get,
but the R9 was cheaper so i went with that card at the end. Keep in mind though that the card is big, so unless you have
extra space you might have problems installing it.
