GTX-980 Ti or GTX-970 SLI?

Just wanted to see if anyone had any input on which way to go with a video card replacement. One GTX-980 Ti is roughly the same cost as 2 x GTX-970. I've read reviews and benchmarks and they seem to be pointing to the GTX-980 Ti as a better idea. It might be slightly slower, but I'd get 6 GB of RAM versus 4. And there would be no SLI complications.

Doses anyone know of any reason to go with SLI in a multiboxing setup like this? I'm mainly running LOTRO now, and it seems to behave pretty well with my current GTX-670s in SLI.

I have a 980Ti. I could run 6x lotro at 2560x1200 (the remaining area of my screen was a dxnothing setup), with high graphics settings on all clients with no issues. I didn't bother with turning up the AA beyond 2x though, so I didn't max out absolutely everything.

If you are planning on using 4K in the near future, then I suggest the 980Ti, because you will need that extra 2GB. You might still end up short on GPU engine, but the 980Ti actually copes quite well even when running at 99%, provided there is enough vRAM. As soon as you get vRAM pressure, the performance drops.

Of course, you could just hang out and see what happens in the next few months .

I have 970 in sli and I am seriously thinking of getting the 980 Ti , as I am not completely happy with the SLI performance overall.

Just to add to this... I personally wouldn't buy into mid/low-end GPU SLI unless I already had a single GPU setup and just wanted to upgrade. In my opinion, if you're looking to build brand new then you should pick the single, most powerful GPU setup you can afford, which then allows you to add in additional GPUs that will give you more gain than what you would have had at a lower tier.

I am running the 980 ti on 5 toons max graphics on rift. Just upgraded a couple weeks ago and loving it!
