Building a PC for $1800

Hiya guys,

As the title says I want to build a pc around a budget of USD1800. My purpose is to 8-box FF14:ARR. My current PC can barely run 3.

This is what I currently have:

Intel i3-2120 @3.3 Ghz (4 virtual cores, 2 physical)
AMD Radeon HD 6570
4 GB DDR3 Ram
250GB SSD and a 3TB HDD

I am not looking to upgrade this machine. I am looking to build a new one. So how would you guys spend around $1800 to build a multiboxing rig?

Re: Building a PC for $1800

I don't think you can build a machine today that will be able to handle eight instances of FFXIV without spending much more than $1,800. Unless something has changed since I last played it, the game itself kind of a resource hog when it comes to multiboxing and is so dependent on framerates in order to get acceptable performance (cursor movement, input, etc.) -- Most people end up splitting their Character Set across two computers.

So, the route that I would recommend is building a new machine but still offload 2 - 3 clients onto the old one. You're probably looking at something like:

Intel 4930K ($550)
Motherboard ($250)
32GB RAM ($350)
GTX 780 ($550)

Right there is already $1,700 and you don't have a PSU, SSD(s), or a case. The 4930K machine might be able to handle eight clients on its own, but I'm not too sure about that. If you were to try eight clients on a single machine I'd have to recommend at least a single GTX 780 Ti which is going to be $150 more than the regular GTX 780.

I don't know how you want to move forward from here...

You're right. I ended up with this system:

Intel i7 4930k
Asus Sabertooth X79
32 GB RAM [Team Elite]
Gigabyte GTX 780 Ti
Samsung Evo 250GB SSD
2TB Seagate Barracuda
Cooler Master Case and CPU Cooler
Corsair PSU
Win 7 HP

It costed me SGD 3492. which translates to about USD 2,800.

Thanks for the recommendation MiRai!
