14 Eve Client Project

Hi Guys looking for some advice

My current rig ATM is a

CPU: Intel Xeon E3 1230 V2 "I did have a i7 920 but swapped for this as it was free"
Motherboard is just a cheep MB i bought for the CPU
GX Card Sapphire HD7970 vapor X 6gb GHz edition"This is the only part of the system i wash to keep using"
Ram Kingston HyperX KHX16C10B1K2/16X (2x8GB) DDR3 "this will not be used either"

My general thoughts of upgrading my system where for all gaming requirements but i mostly play eve so solving this issue is my priority.
I'm currently looking at a,

CPU Intel Core i7 3930K
GX Card Sapphire HD7970 vapor X 6gb GHz edition "Possibly getting a second one"
Motherboard ASUS P9X79
Ram 2xCorsair Dominator Platinum CMD16GX3M2A2400C10 (2x8GB) DDR3
This comes to $2000 not including the second card.

But there are a few options i wish to ask you guys about ,
1 could a Amd 8 core be better than a Intel 6 core for what I'm trying to achieve
2 Should i consider running 2 computer because no current CPU can handle this many clients.
here is my config as well so can understand what config I'm running and able to comment on my choices http://www.privatepaste.com/b2010bba4c

Thx in advance

No. The Intel chip will provide more horsepower than the AMD chip, especially since you can easily overclock the 3930K.

I can't really answer the question since I don't play EVE and don't know how much load each client can produce at X settings, but I'm pretty sure there are numerous EVE players who run more than 14 clients on a single machine.

Re: 14 Eve Client Project

ahhhh man you are in, what I consider to be, the danger zone.

I run currently a similar setup as the one you are looking to purchase.

I have a i7 3770k overclocked to 4.6ghz.

32 gb of ram

AMD 7800 GPU (the GPU is really never taxed)

running 9 clients in an incursion can be taxing

running 14 clients mining can be choppy.

try it, but I would add the disclaimer that 14 clients might be too much to run as smooth as I look for.

Re: 14 Eve Client Project

Thx for your feed back, Im trying to understand how dual PC setup will work & im currently testing it now

I can buy two of these setups instead of the previous setup for around the same price
Sapphire Radeon HD7970 GHz Edition 6GB Vapor-X Edition
G.Skill Trident X F3-2400C10D-16GTX 16GB (2x8GB) DDR3
Intel Core i7 3770K
ASRock Z77E-ITX Mini ITX Motherboard
Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced Mini ITX Case

& if i ever wanted to combine the hardware i would have matching Ram & GX cards.

Hey guys i found an awesome compromise, im using my laptop and this dual setup works a treat. The only think i can say is that i have to use synergy to make it work how it would if it was only one PC but it works great ,maybe the same functionality could be added in the future.

Synergy has known issues with Inner Space. Most people use Input Director instead.

It does? I can't use mouselook across Synergy with or without IS, but cursor location and clicking I have no problem with.

What issues have been reported that I should be on the lookout for?

At this point, I can't remember. it's been so long since someone has said they've used Synergy and it's just what we (myself and a few others) tell people because there were problems in the past. If it's working fine for you then I guess keep using it. ;)

2 of those systems would be a very sweet setup

could easily run perhaps 12-15 miners per box. Maybe more? Incursions (my current love affair) tax out my similar system with 13 clients up, but that only occurs when the NPC's are on grid. Mining is probably much less intensive.
