WoW 5-boxing - hardware query

Recently got back into boxing WoW and have a hardware query.

My PC is:

i7-920 running at 4GHz
6GB RAM
Win7-64 on SSD
WoW on Western Digital HDD
BFG GTX285 OC+ (1024MB) running the 257-21 drivers
2 x 24" 1920x1200 monitors

I grabbed an ISBoxer licence a month ago and have been easing myself back into WoW with some 2-boxing, which worked fine.

Today, I've made the move back to 5-boxing and have fired up my Shammies but am having problems.

For the past month I've been 1 and 2 boxing with the graphics set to the "high" setting on the slider and (both) clients at 1920x1200 with no problems.

When I try 5-boxing with those settings, I can't even load a 5th client before the system starts to struggle and I appear to be out of RAM.

With graphics down to Low (but view distance notched up a bit) I can load 5 clients and play, with some 500-800MB of RAM free.

The CPU is barely ticking over and the GPU, whilst busy, isn't quite maxed out... so am I really looking at more system RAM to fix this problem or am I missing some other issue?

What spec do other 5-boxers have and with what WoW settings?

Re: WoW 5-boxing - hardware query

I'm running 5 clients on:

i7-920 at 3.6 GHz
12 GB RAM
Win7 64 on HDD (only WoW client on SSD)
Nvidia GTX 580, latest WHQL driver
2x 24" 1920 x 1200

Slaves run on good setting with viewing range set to medium, main client runs on high settings. FPS is 30 on slaves, 45-60 on main with CPU being the limit in high traffic areas. GPU at 60-75% load with all clients on DX11.

System memory usage is around 700MB - 1GB per client.

Re: WoW 5-boxing - hardware query

Thanks for that.

I've been playing all day, with graphics on minimum except draw distance bumped up a couple of notches.

My 6GB RAM is practically all gone nearly all the time - 100mb to 400mb free at various times - so I've ordered another 6GB.
Hopefully that will allow me to bump the graphics back up a bit.

My only concern now is that filling the other 3 memory slots will make my 4GHz overclock unstable, which would be a real shame... is that why you're running at 3.6GHz?

Re: WoW 5-boxing - hardware query

I'm running five clients as well (Warcraft)
No overclock of anything.

i7, 920.
12GB DDR3, 1600mhz
Asus P6T motherboard
GTX 275, 1GB.
Patriot Torq 64GB SSD
Win Vista, 64-bit

I've got a pair of mapped keys, which adjust settings on the fly.
The current master gets higher settings.
The other windows get lower settings.
Also IS Boxer caps the main window at 60 FPS and the slaves at 20 FPS.

Hmm - that does sound interesting.
Is there a guide to how to implement that?
Can't see anything on http://isboxer.com/index.php/guides#catid1

Re: WoW 5-boxing - hardware query

Thanks for that... I've upgraded to 12GB RAM and implemented the high/low graphics macros and can now run 5 clients with acceptable frame rates.
