Sever Lag @ 18 plus Sessions - What is my choke point?

Hi all,

I am having an issue with over 17 instance on one pc, sytem really bogs down with significant hardware lag (mouse delay, windows popping up and drawing slowly, artifacts) and I am not sure where my problem lays.
Below is my system - I run EQ RoF and I let RoF control fore and background FPS which is 30 / minimal. I have set cpu to round robin (hyperthread) dedicated 1 cpu and shared cpu (this is second box so best performance for all is preferred?) with no difference.

System is: Win 7 Pro
Intel Core i7-3770K Ivy Bridge Quad-Core 3.5GHz (3.9GHz Turbo) LGA 1155 77W BX80637I73770K Desktop Processor Intel HD Graphics
ASUS SABERTOOTH Z77 LGA 1155 Intel Z77 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
G.SKILL Sniper Gaming Series 32GB (4 x 8GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 1600 (PC3 12800) Desktop Memory Model F3-1600C9Q-32GSR
1 x EVGA 025-P3-1579-AR GeForce GTX 570 (Fermi) HD 2560MB 320-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Support Video ...
Intell 520 SSD

I loaded up some monitoring tools and
video card mem usage 512 out of 2.5gb
CPU 20% with ocasional spike
Mem 10gb out of 32gb

my configuration;

Any help would be great and thanks!

Only thing I can see in your profile is that ServerTeam does not have the "Make game believe it is foreground" option set. The rest of the settings are unlikely to break anything.

From your provided stats, 512MB graphics ram usage seems rather low for 17 instances of EQ. Even if it is an older game.
You could try a few less instances. i.e. Does it work super fine with only 3? If so then the issue is probably a resource bottleneck that your not seeing with the tools you've used.

Thank you for the response, it works great with 16 / 17 instances no real issues, it just gets bad exponentially when you start going past that.

Its odd that foreground was not selected, ill fix that and test. As far as memory consumption, that's on par with Lax's post of approx 32mb per session for EQ and I run at bare minimum specs and use stickfigures for char. could be why its low.

I will keep tweaking :)

I tried the force foreground, no joy, made it way worse. I did try setting the fps in isboxer after to see if it made a difference and no luck either. very odd.

So I split up the instances between hard drives. I have 14 spread between 2 HDD and 6 on another. Seems to have resolved my problem.

I'd not considered monitoring disk traffic for saturation. With SSD's all the norm these days it is rare to find it being an issue.
It's good you found your issue, and thanks for posting back :).
