Really bad graphics glitches

Anyone ever seen anything like this? Sometimes my graphics will totally screw up, It's like the polygons lose structure and radiate out from their source points ... kinds of like rays of screwed up textures.

Re: Really bad graphics glitches

Hello Rhand,
The typical cause for that sort of issue is a failing power supply, driver issues (yours is current, perhaps roll it back one release), overheating issues, or memory corruption.

I'm inclined to start with memory corruption, any suggestions on how to identify if that is indeed what's happening?

Sure, http://www.memtest.org/ has a disc you can burn to test your memory (Could also make a flash drive bootable and use that). However, that is the last of that list that I'd suspect.

Re: Really bad graphics glitches

Well the glitches only happen when running under ISBoxer, when playing single instance or multiple wow instances open in regular non-boxed sessions I never see the same type of graphics issues. My card doesnt' run any hotter under ISBoxer than it does under normal play and my power supply was replaced relatively recently due to an unrelated issue. The graphics issues occured before and after the PS change and it has occured over at least 3 versions of the nVidia driver set ... so I'm leaning towards memory corruption.

One thing to note about that utility I linked you is that it will run indefinitely. Wouldn't be a bad idea to let the program run overnight and then check in the morning to see if there are any errors (They will be in red text). If this doesn't come up with any problems, we'll have to see what ideas Lax may have on the subject.

Might want to check your video card's temps and VRAM usage while you're are in game and playing using GPU-Z.

Re: Really bad graphics glitches

Haven't been watching voltages but have been watching temps and they range from 50C - 65C which is well under the GTX 470 nVidia stated threshold of 105C. It's also below or around what most benchmarks see a 470 running at under load.

Something else I noticed tonight was that in general it happens when swapping windows, it's like something is getting out of whack. Normaly my window swaps are very fast and smooth but when it messes up I don't get a smooth swap ... the target slot that is moving to my full screen monitor stays at 1/4 resolution and the rest of the main monitor goes black for about a second. Then the old main pops into the previous 1/4 slot and the new main blinks and comes back full screen ... and one or both of the windows will then be bugged as in the screenshots. Other texture map issues occur as well like losing the water texture and all water just becomes black. I really think it's something in the window swap process as this only happens under ISBoxer?

BTW Lax, not takin a shot at your app, I've used it for a year+ and this only started happening late in ICC, about the time I picked up a GTX 470 card from my previous GTX 260 OC.

When I say VRAM I'm talking about the video card's memory usage, not the voltages.

Re: Really bad graphics glitches

Bah my bad, totally misread that one :) I know what VRAM is and completely read right past it as Voltage ... will see what GPU-Z has to say about the card under load. Thanks for the correction MiRai.
