Earth And Beyond [Net-7] Need help getting this to work.

Alright so I used this program in old WoW. I was gonna try and play an old emu form of Earth and beyond. I heard some people were using it in the game, and have seen people multi-boxing though unsure of their program.

To start: if i run through the client Net-7 patcher I will get -
"Failed to execute "filepath\LaunchNet7.exe". The process terminated unexpectedly."

I also found a post of an old Earth and Beyond user here with same issue and no replies to his troubles.
http://isboxer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=2908&p=12516&hilit=earth+and+beyond#p12516
And then someone who HAD the game working but is facing other issues I havent gotten to yet :P
http://isboxer.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=1580&p=6280&hilit=earth+and+beyond#p6280

I then tried to run the game through the game client, seems I am able to log in without the patcher. but I run into this error in the very first loading screen:

Sorry for the length, I am uncertain if this info helps and how much of it was needed. I would point out I see the FPS and Hardware usage stats on the loadup screen just before it crashes, so I belive its trying to work. I have tried differnt resolutions, compatability, running ISboxer with a defualt setup. all to come across this error.

This dosent even go into the second monitor, since the first screen crashes.. just trying a simple two accounts at once.

Im running on a ISboxer trial to see if I can get this working, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Earth And Beyond [Net-7] Need help getting this to work.

Try the development build of Inner Space. I recently fixed some bugs with Direct3D 8 and it's possible the bug you're running into with this D3D8 game is fixed.

To try it, right click IS and select Patcher, check "Download development (test) patches" then close and restart Inner Space

Re: Earth And Beyond [Net-7] Need help getting this to work.

Download development did some patching on the restart, but same error/crash. Tried with Patcher and tried directly with client, no changes.

On a side note, the screens are not the important thing to me thats extra, just the keyboard sharing across the open games is important.. Is there a way to use innerspace like that from the outside after I have loaded the games? I somehow doubt that but worth a asking.

I am still trying little things... I will run the game normal to the login screen then try to run another with innerspace. Someone mentioned to me that the game runs on XP compatability but I tried every compatability mode with no luck. If I can just get it to load im sure ill be ok for the most part, but it is not happy with this older game.. hehe, thanks for the help.

Re: Earth And Beyond [Net-7] Need help getting this to work.

Alright so i tried this out and I am getting the same issue. Let me break down the startup process.

The game needs to be launched through the x:\Net-7\bin\LaunchNet7.exe
This launcher then proceeds to launch the following in what I believe to be the correct order from observation of the windows that pops up.
I get the (Failed to execute '"x:\Net-7\bin\LaunchNet7.exe"', The process terminated unexpectedly) error message as soon as play is clicked on the launcher.
x:\Net-7\bin\net7proxy.exe launches.
x:\Earth & Beyond\release\client.exe is launched and begets a window that you have to click through to accept the licensing terms.
If there is a way to make InnerSpace actually wait for a client.exe window to launch and then do its thing I would love to know how to use that feature.
Otherwise it looks like the IS software doesn't have an exception built in to handle the extra curves thrown at it thanks to the complicated setup that makes this game run.

But if there is someway around this I would love to know!

As an addendum
Dialog from IS console.

Re: Earth And Beyond [Net-7] Need help getting this to work.

It sounds like LaunchNet7 is a custom launcher that may alter the game in order to let you connect to their emulator. Launchers like this will typically be incompatible with Inner Space, but I may be able to tweak something...

I will say that I don't generally support emulators due to copyright issues, particularly with games that are still alive (I'm aware this game is not). For example we don't allow discussion of WoW emulators because we need to remain in good favor with Blizzard. I don't know the legal status of Earth and Beyond, but I do see Net7 being in the United States and not shut down, so that's something.

I will need to download and test this in order to provide a working solution. I may or may not end up having time to do that this week as I still have family stuff winding down from the holidays

Re: Earth And Beyond [Net-7] Need help getting this to work.

Appreciate the responses. As far as my testing goes my trial ended so im sol until I purchase some ISB time. I have tried pwnboxer just looking for solutions, it is unable to run the windows. Ive also been able to talk with a few players who attempt to use boxing software, and it almost feels like the net-7 launcher is doing something to prevent the program from functioning.

however I press the issue that it does work, since the second forum link on my first post shows a user who has the game running, but he was having some aligning issues.

And the last thing I mention is they openly allow multiboxing, as almost everyone who plays will run a few clients at a time... hence my attempt at finding a working software to simplify my tasks. So my theory about net-7 client preventing software from running might be null, just thought id throw it out there... there ARE people who are doing some 5+ character multiboxing, but getting them to talk has been a challenge, seems its a pretty hush-hush thing.

The game as far as I know is legal, its big enough EA knows about it, though since its free they cant do anything about it... if they could, knowing EA, it would have already been taken into legal action. Its also received praise from members of the developing company Westwood.

I understand the low priority on a emulated game, I was afraid I would be out of luck on this. If its of any matters; I will promote this software if I can get it working, among the players of the game. So at the very least "Thanks for trying" Ill be willing to activate my account if we can get further in fixing this issue.

*update* being a old game... for me to change its window size I need to run a config program each time I want to make a differnt resolution. I have resorted to manualy boxing for the time, and use multi monitors, one is a differnt resolution so I must use this config program everytime I run my game.

Re: Earth And Beyond [Net-7] Need help getting this to work.

I can give you additional trial time np, assuming I get it to work. I'm downloading the game now, but as I mentioned previously I don't think I'm going to have an update for you until next week, if there is one.

Any new/different game is relatively high priority as making any particular game operate correctly will generally fix others as well. But you're right, emulators and especially low-population games are lower priority.

There is light at the end of this tunnel. Work to do yet, but here it is basically working!

(Screenshot looks funny because the aspect ratio of the game's resolution is not currently configured to the same as the Window Layout)

Keep an eye out early next week for instructions for this, and an Inner Space compatibility update. :)
